Phase 1 of the study was to obtain: (a) the common misconceptions and problems in understanding Archimedes' principle from the perspective of students through five-item test, mid-year physics exam-questions, 10-item objective test and the analysis of students’ performance in the real SPM, (b) the common misconceptions and problems in understanding Archimedes’ principle from previous studies and (c) the formulation of the principle of Archimedes' misconceptions and problems. This study consisted of four phases: a) Phase 1 – to identify misconceptions and problems with Archimedes' principle, b) Phase 2 – to build and develop Archimedes’ principle learning kit c) Phase 3 – to apply the use of Archimedes’ principle learning kit in the workshops, and d) Phase 4 – to characterize the Archimedes principle learning kit.
The focus of this study was more towards teachers and students of physics in secondary schools. It was conducted through a systematic and in-depth investigation of the subject matter that included exploration of problem and misconception, literature reading, activity generation, workshops, workshops questionnaire analysis and categorization of features and elements of the Archimedes' principle learning kit as the final product. This study aimed to build and develop learning kit in understanding the Archimedes principle.
